Identity

2017-2019

My art focuses on gender as a parameter of human nature, on how it shapes and directs each of us.

Nowadays, gender is difficult to define with precision. The once clear line between masculinity and femininity has become blurred. The unisexualisation and unification of roles, appearance and identity is increasingly common and less shocking than it once was. Men have taken on a new role as objects of desire and masculinity is no longer seen solely in the context of power and domination, but also sensuality and vanity.

In my art, I am looking for an image of the 21st-century man. In particular, I am investigating whether this new masculine identity is the sweet fruit of emancipation for me as a woman, or merely its unintended side effect.

My work is inspired by mass media, social media, advertising and fashion.
